O homem contra o gigante: o plano de Andrew Feldman, da Cerebras, para vencer a Nvidia
Cofundador da startup acredita que o futuro da inteligência artificial passará pelos chips que sua empresa desenvolveu desde 2015, ainda que Nvidia domine quase sozinha o mercado

Andrew Feldman, CEO da Cerebras, é um nativo de Palo Alto, um dos principais endereços do Vale do Silício.
Bem localizado geograficamente, o líder de tecnologia tem despontado como um dos principais nomes contra o domínio absoluto da Nvidia no setor de inteligência artificial (IA).
A empresa comandada por Jensen Huang possui entre 70% e 90% de participação de mercado, segundo a Mizuho Securities.
Com sua proposta própria de design de hardware para suportar a 'mente das máquinas', a Cerebras desenvolveu um chip descrito como "radical" e "do tamanho de um prato", que promete acelerar os cálculos e reduzir a necessidade de rede.
Em entrevista ao Business Insider, Feldman defendeu que, após 9 anos da fundação de sua empresa, ele tem pesquisa industrial suficiente para uma abordagem alternativa à Nvidia.
Com tal promessa, de acordo com a PitchBook, a Cerebras levantou mais de US$ 700 milhões em aportes.
E, em breve, o mercado de ações poderá avaliar a empresa em uma oferta pública, segundo o The Information. Se apoiado por investidores públicos, o portfólio de clientes poderá ser expandido para além dos nomes já bastante robustos como AstraZeneca e TotalEnergies.
Focado na indústria, a Cerebras, entende que essas indústrias não apenas têm cargas de trabalho computacionais pesadas; elas também possuem modelos de negócios que podem se beneficiar de pequenas melhorias na velocidade ou nos resultados da computação de didicada.
Um modelo de descoberta de medicamentos um pouco melhor pode significar milhões em lucros.
A comparação entre David e Golias é inevitável. "Eu sou um David profissional", disse Feldman, ao Insider.Enfrentar a Nvidia não é tarefa fácil. Conhecida por suas táticas agressivas, a Nvidia utiliza sua força de mercado com GPUs para impulsionar seus negócios de rede, o que levanta questões sobre práticas anticompetitivas.
Contudo, Feldman acredita que o verdadeiro desafio está no mindshare — a percepção de mercado — que a Nvidia consolidou ao longo de uma década.
"Ninguém é demitido por comprar Nvidia," diz um velho ditado no setor.Mas Feldman contra-ataca:"Ninguém é promovido por usá-la também."Para ele, enquanto a Nvidia enfrenta mais concorrência, a Cerebras tem espaço para enfrentar o desafio.
